Our Mission Statement

All site staff at Young carry a CSCS operative or supervisor card. Our personnel are widely experienced in the use of polyethylene fusion welding techniques, ductile iron and conventional welded steel installations.

Our Setup

We own most of our own plant and transport which includes trench excavators, road compressors, rollers etc. as well as butt fusion/electrofusion welders up to 315mm, arc welding generators, pipe threaders and the Aqua Gas PEART 150.

Gas

Landfill

Young Contracting are a leading landfill gas contractor offering a variety of landfill services, ranging from sheet lining of landfill cells and caps to complete packages for landfill gas and land remediation and earthworks.

Leak Repairs

Young Contracting have a call out service to deal with any external mains bursts/leaks on gas outlet supply pipes.

Mains Installation

Young Contracting specialise in the supply and installation of new or replacement external buried gas outlet pipe work systems i.e gas pipe work from outlet side of gas shipper/supplier meter arrangement, normally situated at the site boundary and through to building entry point and onto appliances.

Live Connection

Young can connect to virtually any pipe material (MDPE/HPPE, copper, steel, uPVC/ABS, Asbestos cement, Cast iron, ductile iron….) and size without disrupting the supply. We own equipment to successfully squeeze off, bag off or flow stop including by-pass equipment and carryout under pressure drillings. When a gas main is turned off, it has to satisfy testing criteria before it can be purged and reinstated. Hospitals, schools and other sensitive sites’ services including flow and return heating mains can be connected to without the need for isolation.

Installation Techniques

Impact moling is a technique in which a percussive mole (soil displacement hammer) is launched from an excavation to displace the soil and form a small tunnel. The new pipe/duct is normally drawn in behind the mole or pulled back into the bored tunnel using the hammers reverse action. Pneumatically driven moles, in which the soil is displaced by the action of a percussive piston, we have for immediate availability a range of moles 45 – 200mm diameter. We use moles on a daily basis to lay new or replace existing gas and water service pipes – 20mm to 90mm are common practice.

Preinsulated Pipe Install

Young Contracting supply and install new or replacement external buried heating, LTHW, chilled water etc..pre-insulated pipe work systems.

Water Testing

MDPE and HPPE pipes expand and contract like no other pipe material. The expansion of the pipe as a pressure vessel and the relaxing of the pipe material can be measured. Since 1998 Young have been testing with data loggers, pressure transducers and computerized analysis of the only approved Method of testing, as endorsed by the WRC.
We test all our polyethylene water mains this way and offer the service to other installers.

CHLORINATION

Young offer a full tukey package to supply, install, test and commission all mains.
Our sterilisation is carried out to BS 6700 and samples taken are analysed by independent laboratories.
